Submitted by Murakh on Thu, 2009-02-05 17:37.HJ3 ? Guys WTH ??
Reading the other blogs it would seem that HK3 is considered the most stable (and available on the samsungmobile website officially for all the other countries it seems) and the latest (unreleased) version is IA2. So we are severely behind, as usual / again.
I reckon this is just a ploy to void warranty as all the wonderful red text indicates "you can choose which version you wish to download & install, but the consequences are yours and yours alone" ? Presumably most people on this blog know to look at other blogs too, and know whats available. So making an outdated version available may get many to get the unofficial version, in so doing making the decision to honour any warranty dependent on the frame of mind of the service centre tech ?
I do hope that at least some of the problems have been solved. And I guess next year we can look forward to HK3 version being made available here ??
RE: version
Submitted by Samsung_Team on Fri, 2009-02-06 13:25.Software versions are regional and not global. Each region, depending on its requirements and setup will have different software builds. If errors or issues are detected in other regions, these “fixes” are incorporated into the local build if they may be related, but A language fix for “polish “ for example will not be added as it’s not relevant to our region. What this means is that a software version for the UK might be terminated with “HK3” and the SA version “HJ3” would essentially be the same build for different regions, both incorporating the same fixes and patches. The version currently posted on the blog is the latest version currently approved by the operators and therefore the latest South African version available for release.

Submitted by mikewelch on Fri, 2009-02-06 07:48.If you get the exclamation mark, you did not do a full upgrade
Go to settings, system, version. You will see the phone and PDA ROM versions are not the same. You have upgraded the PDA but not the Windows Mobile phone part. You need to install the samsung modem driver off the cd 1st, something the samsung techies left out of the "detailed" instructions.
But do yourself a favour and go to http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/omnia/index.jsp and select singapore. That ROM is the most stable available at this point.

Submitted by bobthecat on Thu, 2009-03-12 20:42.After an unsuccessful ROM update of DXHJ1 When I start my phone I get the a picture of a phone with an "!" mark. It still runs after a few seconds and everything seems to work just fine. The problem is that I can't get to update my ROM again, because I can't get the updater to detect my phone. I really tried everything.
Version (after unsuccessful ROM update)
PDA: i900DXHJ1/DXHJ1
PHONE: i900BWHH1
is there anyway to fix this? Something i haven't tried so the updater will find my phone and successfully update my ROM or maybe some other way of updating (or degrading for all i care) my ROM?
Update Succesfull!!!! Thanks Guys!
Submitted by Shepherd on Fri, 2009-02-06 00:27.Ok now I know I have been a oain but with good reason. Now to return the favor I will post my experience During the update for those who are a little hesitant.
Fist and foremost I would like to thank Pieter Pretorius and anyone else who was involved with the process of making this Happen.
I updated my omnia with the new Rom and it is a damn beauty! I now have 55mb Free Space! And all the Samsung Apps installed. The Update does not erase anything that comes with the phone so please dont stress about losing Opera or Office mobile. I would also like to mention that this is a Official Samsung rom and it will be removing all Brandings (Thank All that is holy! And a big F! U! to Vodafone for almost destroying my omnia) You will notice a heap of new features on the phone including a stack of haptic feedback as well as more apps! The Touch screen is also more responsive! But anyways I can rant on and on about how cool this update is but what I would really like to do is help out a few guys because the samsung steps are not complete. Sad but True.
You absolutely need the samsung Modem drivers... Without it the update will fail and it will break your phone. You can download the drivers here:
http://sg.samsungmobile.com/promotionevent/promotionNewEvent.do?p_page=h...
Download and install it and double check that the drivers are infact installed. With that done Id like to add that I used the Active Sync supplied with my phone it is the same version thats in the Sammy Tut so no need re installing that. If u got the Modem drivers from the link and follow the Tut step by step it will all work out just fine. For the sake of being over cautious disable your phone lock and charge the phone for at least 12 hours. (Vodarom screwed up battery nd wont allow u to charge through the USB Cable)
I Hope I answered some questions. I didnt have anyone to help me out and figured I would take a leap of Faith. Also bear in mind that the update takes a while and it will be the longest 30 minutes of your life. Dont fidle with anything during the update and make sure your pc's screen saver doesnt come on. Also close your Antivirus, Firewall and spyware protection.
Im running Windows XP Pro with SP3 and the .Net Framework 2.5 Installed.
Before:
Version: i900v (Vodafone CRAP)
PDA: i900XXHH1/JBHH1
Phone: i900BUHH1
After: i900
PDA: i900JCHJ3/JCHJ3
Phone: i900JCHJ3
Once again thanks for the effort guys I now have my moneys worth in my hand and will be enjoying it. I just might buy a samsung HD screen for my xbox after all:-P
Peace!

Update successfull! thanks to all previous blogs
Submitted by robinhood on Wed, 2009-04-22 14:51.Thanks to all the previous posts about issues with the upgrade, I was well prepared when I did mine yesterday. Went off seamlessly, obvious things to watch out for is the sequence, though it is explained in the install notes, I have outlined the steps I took, perhaps this may just give some additional clarity.
1. I Installed active sync 4.5 on XP computer
2. I then Installed the USB modem driver on XP computer.
3. I then attached my phone with USB cable to XP computer, switched phone on, made the necessary backups with Active sync.
4. I then unclicked the box, connect with USB under connections, as it said in the notes.
5. I closed active sync, then turned off phone.
6. Next I disconnected the USB cable from the computer and phone . (this is vital)
7. I then reconnected USB cable to computer and phone.(sounds a bit repetitive, but it didn't work unless I did that)
8. Once both were connected, I switched on phone.
9. The Computer came up with a dialog box that had the start tab on it, I clicked the tab.
10. The updating commenced, (all behaviour as described in install notes, i.e progress bar on phone etc.)
11. At the end of the progress bar on the phone, I almost rushed to disconnect, but found it goes further without the progress bar moving beyond the first segment.
12. Only once the dialog box on the computer indicated, job done and the phone had rebooted to the new windows screen did I disconnect.
13. Now the phone is working very efficiently, all the issues I had with GPS, GPRS, WiFi etc were resolved.
Once again thanks to all that made the effort to advise of their experience with upgrading, perhaps mine will be of use to someone out there.
Kind regards
JBHH1

Submitted by thejaf on Fri, 2009-02-06 10:53.Why has it taken so long to come out with firmware update?
The "HJ" in the Phone/PDA code means OCTOBER 2008.
We are SO far behind the rest of the world.
And on top of all that - ot seems a huge schlep to do the update.
And on the international OMNIA update website - South Africa is not even an option. The fact that we have to download from a blog just sounds dodgy!
Take ANY E or N Series Nokia, and the update is a no-brainery.
Come on Samsung, get your act together - the OMNIA has SO much to offer, but is being let down by bad support in SA!
THANK YOU!!!!

Submitted by wdp on Sat, 2009-02-14 16:12.I downloaded the update and installed required software (i.e. ActiveSync and Samsung Modem driver), and update completed successfully the second time (failed the first time), but when phone restarts it is stuck at boot screen with Samsung Omnia logo. Tried to hard reset (holding Send and Cancel while switching on or pressing reset button, then select Format), but no joy.
Anyone else has similar problem or any suggestions? Tried leaving battery out for 30 minutes as well.
Edit: Please note that I solve this issue by replacing the USB data cable.
Update Succesfull
Submitted by jamie on Fri, 2009-02-06 14:38.Successfully updated the phone. Had an issue at the end where the phone kept rebooting itself after windows had loaded. I unplugged the USB cable and then everything was fine.
Some of the changes I've noticed are:
New Software:
Shozu
Google Launcher
Features:
- Samsung Today Screen 1 has more icons and allows you to customise them. The date/time also looks different.
- Main menu now has a second screen. press the up arrow to view more icons.
- new "operator settings" in connections which allows you to select your service provider to automatically get the mms/wap settings
- phone vibrates when pressing a key on the keyboard
- One strange thing I dont like is if you go to "Programs" from the main menu it displays 1 long list of programs which is hard to scroll through without accidentally clicking one (similar to contacts), but if you select "Programs" from the start menu then its them same as it was originally (3 icons per line)
- all Vodafone branding is gone.
There might be more differences but that's all I have noticed so far. Im just hoping this improves the battery life.

JCHJ3 is from October 2008
Submitted by Dean (not verified) on Mon, 2009-02-09 10:47.Laughable.
JCHJ3 is from October 2008. Other regions have had plenty releases since then which are widely considered far more stable and optimised.
Do we now have to wait another 6 months before we receive an update to the latest version (as of Feb '09) and thus be behind the other regions once again?
JCHJ3
Submitted by Samsung_Team on Mon, 2009-02-09 15:24.You are correct in stating that the originally released version JCHJ3 was released in October. There are a number of factors that impact on version naming conventions. We can confirm that the version on the blog has a compile date of 2 December, and is in fact the most current approved software version available in South Africa for your Omnia.
As you have stated, various releases are made available in other market areas from time to time – however in South Africa’s Operator driven market, we necessarily have to obtain approval from the Operators (Cell C, MTN and Vodacom) before making these firmware builds available for use. A previous post explained this process and the impact it has on the timing for firmware release in South Africa.

RE: waiting for some help...
Submitted by Samsung_Team on Thu, 2009-02-12 06:08.HI Perme.
We’re sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulty with the download application. The problem you are experiencing is related to USB drivers on the PC.
Please uninstall and then reinstall the USB drivers required for the download (available at www.samsungblog.co.za/downloads/omnia-samsung-modem-usb-driver). Restart the download procedure, once the first half is complete; the PC will “find new hardware” and should install “Samsung USB Composite Device”. A count down on the application will start will these drivers are installing. If the countdown gets to the end before the drivers are complete, the download will stop. Finish the driver installation and then restart the download app again, if this is the case.
Failing this, try a new USB port on the PC and if this still does not work, please take the unit into your nearest Samsung Repair Centre or contact 0860 SAMSUNG for your information on the nearest centre.

Submitted by plithauer on Wed, 2009-02-11 16:20.Had similar problems when I tried to upgrade myself and eventually GAVE UP and took it to my local Samsung support center who had it done for me in less than a day. THANKS GUYS. Phone seems much better.
However, is there a user manual for the new version??? I have noticed some differences in the user interface and am scared I miss a nice new feature if I just play around without a manual.

Submitted by YeaNutz on Thu, 2009-02-12 13:14.I had the same problem, found out it was because i was installing Garmin to "my storage" instead of "storage card"
decided to do a hard reset, installed to storage card and all was fine.
what id like to know, where are the Garmin personal files kept ? the contact info and my locations, as whenever i do a hard reset and clear all memory I loose my personal setting, i'd like to back them up and copy them back after the hard reset.

re: Cannot download anything
Submitted by Dave_N on Sat, 2009-02-14 08:16.Hi Optimus. I also had problems when trying to download the firmware upgrade and Garmin 2009 maps. The issue was a blessing in disguise as when I called the Samsung support line the agent said that installing the firmware upgrade through SamsungBlog would void the handset warranty (Thumbs down to SamsungBlog administrators). So go to your nearest Samsung support centre and have them upgrade the phone for you. Make sure you have backed everything up and have a full battery.
I was able to download the new mapset this morning and will give it a whirl later.
Best of luck!

Submitted by Scratchbuild on Tue, 2009-02-17 07:30.Hi there,
I think I managed to brick my phone. The upgrade failed after the eboot download while downloading the windows image( If I remember correctly) and I tried again and failed at the same place. Now my phone does not even want to turn on anymore. Does anyone have suggestions or the same problem. I would hate to send the phone in for them to repair. And if I have to take it in where is the best place to do so?

RE: Upgrade
Submitted by Samsung_Team on Fri, 2009-02-20 11:28.Hi Scratchbuild
It sounds like the problem you are experiencing may related to USB drivers on the PC. Firstly, try to get a charge into the unit on a std Samsung Charger ( you should see the red indication on the power switch) Please uninstall and then reinstall the USB drivers required for the download (available at http://www.samsungblog.co.za/downloads/omnia-samsung-modem-usb-driver ).
If however you cannot power up the phone for the “downloader” to detect the unit, you will not be able to download to the phone, please take the unit into your nearest Samsung Repair Centre or contact 0860 SAMSUNG for your information on the nearest centre.
Singaporean firmware

It's pathetic that we have to resort to measures such as these to compensate for the shoddy support from SA. I'm still waiting for a reply to my wi-fi problems from months ago!!! Samsung SA's support is a disgrace.

Omnia Firmware
Submitted by William Palmer Thomson (not verified) on Mon, 2009-02-23 20:54.I installed the new firmware successfully but still had an intermittent problem not being able to make or receive calls, so I took the phone to Vodacare. It has just come back with a report that they did a firmware upgrade. I told them I had already done my own upgrade and they said I’m not allowed to. When I got home I looked to see what version they’ve installed. PDA: JBHH1 and Phone: BUHH1. That’s the old version isn’t it? So they probably haven’t solved my problem. Has anyone had the same calling problem and can I do the upgrade again myself or not? I feel a saga coming!

What are the benefits of updating to the new firmware?
Why does Samsung not release a list of fixes/improvements to that its customers can make an informed decision? Surely this cannot be that difficult to do? Surely it occurred to Samsung SA as a logical approach?
Difference between this blog & http://www.samsungmobile.com/supp
Submitted by Wynand (not verified) on Thu, 2009-02-26 18:16.Question for Samsung SA:
What is the difference between the ROM upgrade available form this site and the one found under
http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/omnia/index.jsp
Options: South Africa & XP?
File size differ - 142.4kb vs. 101.9kb?
After using it for about 1/2 month, the battery life is much better, more RAM and as nice new look of main menu & apps.
BUT some bugs still present such as today screen black-out after calls, non-response if you do not reset your phone for a couple of days - and the MOST annoying one - dead silence after about 2 min's on a call - the call is not cut but no-one can hear each other!
How often will the ROM's be upgraded - i.e when can we expect a better version closer to our overseas buddies?

Omnia Firmware JBxxx version
Submitted by diese1974 on Tue, 2009-03-17 15:02.I posted this last week...yet it is still being moderated...all I can say is that I hope they on working on the JB firmware upgrade and this is the reason it is taking soooo long
I have now waited very very patiently, first it was for just the firmware upgrade...which took forever, it seems...then I had to wait for the vista version, which is now available (thanks) but now i still cant do anything, because the firmware isnt Voda compatible.
When can we expect this...can I not just use the other version and be done with it. from what I hear the it removes the voda apps which makes it run better anyway!
After having my new Omnia for 4 months now (and deliberated for ages between this and the Iphone) for the most part, I think I would have been better going for the Iphone...better yet, just sticking with my trusty Nokia...never any problems.
Is it too much to ask for a phone that works...to date, the camera has never been used, every time I need to I have the memory issue...The touch screen is pants...Battery life is non existant and when you plug it into the USB port it says it is charging, but when you unplug it all battery life is gone!...also, calls go dead about two minutes into the conversation but doesnt disconnect...
I am still waiting to install a varierty of apps, but havent, because they will be deleted when i eventually get do the upgrade!

Upgraded!
Submitted by Monk1 (not verified) on Mon, 2009-03-09 08:54.Finally gave up on the JB Vista release and rigged up an XP platform to flash from. Worked perfectly! The phone is significantly better in many ways. I used to have to restart 3+ times per day, now it’s been running for 4 days, without charging or a restart. Like one of the other users on this forum, I also had the Slight Bump Switch Off issue. This has also stopped even though I can’t see how this could have been a software problem. If you have not flashed your Omnia, do it now. Just follow the instructions. Thanks Samsung for making an effort.

Any ideas on when this will happen, and also any work around for getting rid of the annoying message telling me that it is an unknown software version? You guys created it, I would have thought you knew it.

RE: Vista upgrade for Orange network version BVHH1?
Submitted by Samsung_Team on Thu, 2009-04-16 09:50.Hi Tom
As stated in the notes accompanying the software, the Vista update only supports models with the same region software, in this case the JCH** OMNIA’s (SA Software). We are assuming that you are here in SA and have a unit that was purchased from Orange overseas. If you can, download the XP version and do the upgrade from a machine with XP as this version does not do the security check that validates the software version prior to downloading. We hope this helps.

Omnio Software Upgrade...
Submitted by anteater on Wed, 2009-04-29 23:35.After feeling the soul-destroying pain of using my omnio with the original JBHH1 software, I spent a week calling vodacare, emailing samsung and searching the net in desperation. I eventually stumbled upon this blog and read through all the related posts, yet being a Vodacom customer with a Vista PC I'm pretty bleak at the support so far. Sure I could make a serious mission and get my hands on a copy of XP and downgrade or ask everyone I know whether I could waste their time and mine setting up the entire process on their XP machine. This plus the cloudy warranty issues - I've decided the best option is to take my phone in to a service centre.
I searched for a list of centres and found this: http://www.samsungblog.co.za/support/service-centres. There are a few options in Cape Town where I am based, but I'm tired of wasting time sifting through incompetence to get this sorted - can anyone recommend a centre that WILL assist me with ease?
Surely it would really benefit Samsung to keep it's users happy by simply getting a list of contact details and sending a little snippet informing them that they should upgrade the software. Otherwise as time goes on the version 1 bugs are gonna snowball into a frustrating mess and brand-tainting word-of-mouth. I'm pretty sure this phone is far ahead of the iPhone all the other competition, we just need to unlock the potential. Come on chaps...
RE: Omnio Software Upgrade...
Submitted by Samsung_Team on Wed, 2009-05-13 11:54.Hi,
The Vodacare centres should be fairly efficient. You’ll find them at Tygervalley, Somerset West, Green Point and Canal Walk. Canal walk is fairly large and operates on extended shopping hours. If however you are having problems with Vodacare service delivery, please contact the head office on 0821944 (toll free from your Vodacom Sim).

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 2009-09-15 09:39.Although it took some time to get going, the service delivered on this blog has been great! The rom upgrades have been superb and have breathed fresh life into my Omnia each time I have upgraded. I hope the imporovements keep coming.
I installed SPB Mobile Shell on my omnia and it is now a much better option than anything else on the market.

Submitted by martin.quari on Tue, 2009-09-29 19:37.Never done an firmware upgrade on my Omnia but have had several glitches (sound keeps on disappearing and other small niggles)
Want to do the upgrade but I am worried that I lose everything, I am using active sync to sync just about everything to my Outlook, there is some mention that I might lose Java etc, what else am I running risk of losing.

omnia touch screen
Submitted by horatiumen (not verified) on Tue, 2009-12-15 18:55.Hello everyone...
I need u help... a few month ago, i update my Samsung Omnia i900 ROM. everything was cool ... until today when i'm trying to make some picture. I can see some problem with my touch screen on left side... some submenu settings don`t work. I`m trying to recalibrate my phone and that going me to a loop of align screen . I update some ROM (15 pecs) and the problem persists. I following up some sugestions with that welcome.not file or to make some changes in registry (increase value of touch screen from 7 to 20 (level by level)). My problem is not that align screen applications. The problems persists on my camera on left side submenu settings. can someone tell me what can i do, anythings else that i have already doing from now....thanks a lot....
@horatiumen re touch screen
Submitted by Dave_N on Wed, 2009-12-16 08:52.Hi
I had a similar problem on the right side a short time ago. It is a hardware fault. So long as it has not expired, you should be able to get the touchscreen replaced under the warranty. A reliable source told me that the earlier Omnia's had a latent defect on that component.
Good luck

Roms
Submitted by I luv my OMNIA (not verified) on Fri, 2010-01-22 14:52.Hi guys.. I have been playing around with plenty of ROMS and Thirdparty software.. the cooked ones as well...
Vodacom and Samsung SA sucks a** when they tell you that the reason why South Africans have to wait so long.. or even not get the new ones is because of compatability issues and testing..
I am on my 7th rom now..I am running a windows 6.5 version and it is great.. like all cooked roms.. the developers are constantly adding and removing and fixing.. all for free.. and some good ones would like a donation..
Try it.. it's free and easy..
I gave up with trying "there" crap.....
Where did you get the 6.5
