HJ3 ? Guys WTH ??
Reading the other blogs it would seem that HK3 is considered the most stable (and available on the samsungmobile website officially for all the other countries it seems) and the latest (unreleased) version is IA2. So we are severely behind, as usual / again.

I reckon this is just a ploy to void warranty as all the wonderful red text indicates "you can choose which version you wish to download & install, but the consequences are yours and yours alone" ? Presumably most people on this blog know to look at other blogs too, and know whats available. So making an outdated version available may get many to get the unofficial version, in so doing making the decision to honour any warranty dependent on the frame of mind of the service centre tech ?

I do hope that at least some of the problems have been solved. And I guess next year we can look forward to HK3 version being made available here ??

Ok now I know I have been a oain but with good reason. Now to return the favor I will post my experience During the update for those who are a little hesitant.

Fist and foremost I would like to thank Pieter Pretorius and anyone else who was involved with the process of making this Happen.

I updated my omnia with the new Rom and it is a damn beauty! I now have 55mb Free Space! And all the Samsung Apps installed. The Update does not erase anything that comes with the phone so please dont stress about losing Opera or Office mobile. I would also like to mention that this is a Official Samsung rom and it will be removing all Brandings (Thank All that is holy! And a big F! U! to Vodafone for almost destroying my omnia) You will notice a heap of new features on the phone including a stack of haptic feedback as well as more apps! The Touch screen is also more responsive! But anyways I can rant on and on about how cool this update is but what I would really like to do is help out a few guys because the samsung steps are not complete. Sad but True.

You absolutely need the samsung Modem drivers... Without it the update will fail and it will break your phone. You can download the drivers here:

Download and install it and double check that the drivers are infact installed. With that done Id like to add that I used the Active Sync supplied with my phone it is the same version thats in the Sammy Tut so no need re installing that. If u got the Modem drivers from the link and follow the Tut step by step it will all work out just fine. For the sake of being over cautious disable your phone lock and charge the phone for at least 12 hours. (Vodarom screwed up battery nd wont allow u to charge through the USB Cable)

I Hope I answered some questions. I didnt have anyone to help me out and figured I would take a leap of Faith. Also bear in mind that the update takes a while and it will be the longest 30 minutes of your life. Dont fidle with anything during the update and make sure your pc's screen saver doesnt come on. Also close your Antivirus, Firewall and spyware protection.

Hi Guys had the same problem with the USB driver. Download Samsung PC Studio here: http://www.smscaster.com/download/Samsung_USB_Driver_Installer.exe, install, then run update again, worked for me. For you guys not able to download update, try firefox, seems to be a problem with IE8 & this site.

perme, how did you get it working? did you have to install anything else on the phone or did you just follow the setup guide found on this site?

This ROM doesn't even include the birthday widget that I was hoping for :( Lets just hope that it solves problems such as battery life etc. Does anyone of you know of any good birthday reminder software?

Hi guys. When installing the firmware it installed compelete and then at the end of the install when it was looking to install ports it died and tries to find the CDMA driver. Is there anyway of getting around this problem?

Well I have already removed SA's "brand new" J3 ROM and returned to my newer, faster and more stable K3 from Indonesia.

So I started the upgrade and the following message showed on the upgrade app..

Step 1. Eboot image Downloading
Downloading EBOOT...
EBOOT image downloaded.
PDA Reboot to download Eboot twice!!!

Now the screen is dead and the power button shines red and is seems like nothing is happening.
The progress bar on the app says:
Waiting for rebooting...

Why has it taken so long to come out with firmware update?
The "HJ" in the Phone/PDA code means OCTOBER 2008.
We are SO far behind the rest of the world.
And on top of all that - ot seems a huge schlep to do the update.
And on the international OMNIA update website - South Africa is not even an option. The fact that we have to download from a blog just sounds dodgy!
Take ANY E or N Series Nokia, and the update is a no-brainery.
Come on Samsung, get your act together - the OMNIA has SO much to offer, but is being let down by bad support in SA!

After the long wait we only get instructions for XP! Please could someone provide instructions for installing on Vista.

I downloaded the update and installed required software (i.e. ActiveSync and Samsung Modem driver), and update completed successfully the second time (failed the first time), but when phone restarts it is stuck at boot screen with Samsung Omnia logo. Tried to hard reset (holding Send and Cancel while switching on or pressing reset button, then select Format), but no joy.

Anyone else has similar problem or any suggestions? Tried leaving battery out for 30 minutes as well.

Edit: Please note that I solve this issue by replacing the USB data cable.

Successfully updated the phone. Had an issue at the end where the phone kept rebooting itself after windows had loaded. I unplugged the USB cable and then everything was fine.

Some of the changes I've noticed are:

New Software:
Shozu
Google Launcher

Features:
- Samsung Today Screen 1 has more icons and allows you to customise them. The date/time also looks different.

- Main menu now has a second screen. press the up arrow to view more icons.

- new "operator settings" in connections which allows you to select your service provider to automatically get the mms/wap settings

- phone vibrates when pressing a key on the keyboard

- One strange thing I dont like is if you go to "Programs" from the main menu it displays 1 long list of programs which is hard to scroll through without accidentally clicking one (similar to contacts), but if you select "Programs" from the start menu then its them same as it was originally (3 icons per line)

- all Vodafone branding is gone.

There might be more differences but that's all I have noticed so far. Im just hoping this improves the battery life.

Upgrade happened smoothly. In about 10 minutes I had a NEW phone.
Battery life is 3000% better, Vodaphone branding gone (YEEEEHA - Hate their branding with a passion!)

Touch screen more responsive.
In general, very worth while.

The Vista version of the Omnia firmware will be available in about a week's time. We'll announce it here on the blog as soon as it's available.

JCHJ3 is from October 2008. Other regions have had plenty releases since then which are widely considered far more stable and optimised.

Do we now have to wait another 6 months before we receive an update to the latest version (as of Feb '09) and thus be behind the other regions once again?

You are correct in stating that the originally released version JCHJ3 was released in October. There are a number of factors that impact on version naming conventions. We can confirm that the version on the blog has a compile date of 2 December, and is in fact the most current approved software version available in South Africa for your Omnia.

As you have stated, various releases are made available in other market areas from time to time – however in South Africa’s Operator driven market, we necessarily have to obtain approval from the Operators (Cell C, MTN and Vodacom) before making these firmware builds available for use. A previous post explained this process and the impact it has on the timing for firmware release in South Africa.

fare enough explanation on the delay in firmware releases, however I suspect that most of us will most likely then begin using official firmware releases from other parts of the world in order to stay current.

Had the same problem. Found that I needed to have the phone connected to install the USB Drivers.

Fortunately removing the battery allowed me to start the process all over again. Pfffff...

Firstly the phone doesn't ring it goes straight to auto answer even ho auto answer is turned off. have to log onto *#0011# to turn off auto answer. when a phone call does come through with auto answer enabled the phone doesn't display that you are on a call, neither does it display the call in the log. also the alarm doesn't go off. i just done the upgrade last night and will let you know if i come across any further bugs. in the mean time is the a place where can take my phone to get his sorted out as i don`t know the ue of all the admin settings and dont want to mess around with them

the firmware upgrade for the omnia is very buggy. phone auto answers even tho auto answer is turned off. the calls that come through arent display in call log. its almost like the symbian app spy call (spy phone) was immbedded into the the rom). you have to turn the auto answer off in the admin settings. also the alarm clock doesn`t work

Had similar problems when I tried to upgrade myself and eventually GAVE UP and took it to my local Samsung support center who had it done for me in less than a day. THANKS GUYS. Phone seems much better.

However, is there a user manual for the new version??? I have noticed some differences in the user interface and am scared I miss a nice new feature if I just play around without a manual.

Can't get Garmin registered. The authorization code comes through as gibberish and Garmin does not activate. ALSO Active sync does not work. Any suggestions?

I lost my USB modem driver during the update and tried to download it from your site. The download works, but when I try and run it I get an error about it not being a proper archive file. Please help, as my phone and PC won't active sync without the driver.

When I run ActiveSync no synchronizing happens and I get the following error message

What does this mean????

I have already installed ActiveSync 4.5.

I think I managed to brick my phone. The upgrade failed after the eboot download while downloading the windows image( If I remember correctly) and I tried again and failed at the same place. Now my phone does not even want to turn on anymore. Does anyone have suggestions or the same problem. I would hate to send the phone in for them to repair. And if I have to take it in where is the best place to do so?

It's pathetic that we have to resort to measures such as these to compensate for the shoddy support from SA. I'm still waiting for a reply to my wi-fi problems from months ago!!! Samsung SA's support is a disgrace.

I got the phone in 2/2/09 and hope that Verizon gave me a phone with the upgraded software.

I installed the new firmware successfully but still had an intermittent problem not being able to make or receive calls, so I took the phone to Vodacare. It has just come back with a report that they did a firmware upgrade. I told them I had already done my own upgrade and they said I’m not allowed to. When I got home I looked to see what version they’ve installed. PDA: JBHH1 and Phone: BUHH1. That’s the old version isn’t it? So they probably haven’t solved my problem. Has anyone had the same calling problem and can I do the upgrade again myself or not? I feel a saga coming!

Hi just want to say thanks for the firmware update, it worked first time with no errors. I have noticed a few changes so far - all good. I had the Vodafone firmware loaded and after the firmware was applied I was pleased to see that it was removed. Both PDA and phone were updated. i tested as much as i could and everything worked fine.

Hi I have updated my Vodafone firmware which i was completely unhappy with. The firmware supplied here although not fully tested and only been loaded for a day seems to work, look and operate so much better. The update was also applied without any issues and went through first time.

@ Noddy007,, since u are getting this incorrect software version, and u want to install the REAL LATEST FIRMWARE, not the dodgy one here, u can Google this problem of urs on the internet and many people found solutions to ur problem.

I have noticed that the MTN firmware is quite up to date application wise compared to my Vodafone firmware which used more memory. Since removing the Vodafone version and installing the update from here I know have the similar stuff that my friends have on MTN.

It seems that if you are an MTN user with the original firmware version i900JCHH1/JCHH1 there is actually very little benefit to upgrade your firmware, is this so?

File size differ - 142.4kb vs. 101.9kb?

After using it for about 1/2 month, the battery life is much better, more RAM and as nice new look of main menu & apps.

BUT some bugs still present such as today screen black-out after calls, non-response if you do not reset your phone for a couple of days - and the MOST annoying one - dead silence after about 2 min's on a call - the call is not cut but no-one can hear each other!

How often will the ROM's be upgraded - i.e when can we expect a better version closer to our overseas buddies?

Finally gave up on the JB Vista release and rigged up an XP platform to flash from. Worked perfectly! The phone is significantly better in many ways. I used to have to restart 3+ times per day, now it’s been running for 4 days, without charging or a restart. Like one of the other users on this forum, I also had the Slight Bump Switch Off issue. This has also stopped even though I can’t see how this could have been a software problem. If you have not flashed your Omnia, do it now. Just follow the instructions. Thanks Samsung for making an effort.

I tested the Today 1 setting. Very nice to custom. I have 1 problem. The Navigator button says: "Navigator is not installed". The Garmin software is installed on the unit and working 100% from the Main Menu activation.

Any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

Was just wondering why on the Samsung website, this version is not recognised, as would like to update the firmware as the battery life is appalling at the moment. Any ideas on when this will happen, and also any work around for getting rid of the annoying message telling me that it is an unknown software version? You guys created it, I would have thought you knew it.

Ez all, now, I have my omnia with this firmware version i900XXHHC/PAHHC and phone version: i900XXHH9. I really have no clue as to what software version is this and where to find update for it.

I have tried decyphering the version letters, and I found out that this is a version for UK, Spain, Belgium, France.... etc. but when I try to update with the official samsung updater, it says "wrong code".

Can anyone please help me with this one? I am searching for a solution for about a month now. :/

After feeling the soul-destroying pain of using my omnio with the original JBHH1 software, I spent a week calling vodacare, emailing samsung and searching the net in desperation. I eventually stumbled upon this blog and read through all the related posts, yet being a Vodacom customer with a Vista PC I'm pretty bleak at the support so far. Sure I could make a serious mission and get my hands on a copy of XP and downgrade or ask everyone I know whether I could waste their time and mine setting up the entire process on their XP machine. This plus the cloudy warranty issues - I've decided the best option is to take my phone in to a service centre.

I searched for a list of centres and found this: http://www.samsungblog.co.za/support/service-centres. There are a few options in Cape Town where I am based, but I'm tired of wasting time sifting through incompetence to get this sorted - can anyone recommend a centre that WILL assist me with ease?

Surely it would really benefit Samsung to keep it's users happy by simply getting a list of contact details and sending a little snippet informing them that they should upgrade the software. Otherwise as time goes on the version 1 bugs are gonna snowball into a frustrating mess and brand-tainting word-of-mouth. I'm pretty sure this phone is far ahead of the iPhone all the other competition, we just need to unlock the potential. Come on chaps...

Please help with correct settings...

i am running vista 64 bit and am using the Windows mobile device center. i have followed the readme/how to guide that the vista 64 bit package comes with but everytime i try run the i900JCIC1_updater_vista.exe i get an error saying that i need to install activesync first.

please help

I've downloaded the vista update file, when I try to update I get message "the device already contains the newest firmware"?? my version is JCHJ3 (previous update i've installed) and my service provider is mtn.

Can anyone help me please...

Am downloading te Vista firmware at the moment. Will I be able to install my old programs on Vista or is XP still going to be the best choice?

I have downloaded and installed the new ROM update JCHJ3 in the hope that it will fix my signal problem, but no luck.

The phone has been sent in for repairs 2 times already and yet no luck.

downloaded the Vista updater jchj3 and have tried a couple of times to upgrade my phone. I get past the image verify and it restarts my device and then does nothing. after a while I just disconnect and the device is as it was. What's the deal?

Although it took some time to get going, the service delivered on this blog has been great! The rom upgrades have been superb and have breathed fresh life into my Omnia each time I have upgraded. I hope the imporovements keep coming.

I installed SPB Mobile Shell on my omnia and it is now a much better option than anything else on the market.

Shot guys, keep up the good work and keep improving my Omnia.

Tried updating to the new firmware, half way through i had a faliure notice and now my phone wont work. i turn it on and all i get is the start up samsung omnia screen (black background white writing) when phone restarts it is stuck at boot screen with Samsung Omnia logo. Tried to hard reset (holding Send and Cancel while switching on or pressing reset button, then select Format), but came up to the same boot screen with Samsung Omnia logo. ANYONE please help me out......

Never done an firmware upgrade on my Omnia but have had several glitches (sound keeps on disappearing and other small niggles)
Want to do the upgrade but I am worried that I lose everything, I am using active sync to sync just about everything to my Outlook, there is some mention that I might lose Java etc, what else am I running risk of losing.
Used the download for the Garmap update and worked like a bomb, thanks.

I recently got an omnia from a friend. It is version JVHI1 - but i do not see anyone using this version and it would appear that the firmware updates available is not correct, can anyone assist me with this one?

I downloaded i900JCIJ1 for XP. When I try to install an error message appears, indicating that I already have the latest firmware.
i900 is about 9 months old.
Current firmware:
PDA: i900 JCHH1/JCHH1
PHONE: I900 JCHH1

I'm in the Kirkwood / Port Elizabeth area, otherwise guidance via this thread or e-mail would be appreciated.

I need u help... a few month ago, i update my Samsung Omnia i900 ROM. everything was cool ... until today when i'm trying to make some picture. I can see some problem with my touch screen on left side... some submenu settings don`t work. I`m trying to recalibrate my phone and that going me to a loop of align screen . I update some ROM (15 pecs) and the problem persists. I following up some sugestions with that welcome.not file or to make some changes in registry (increase value of touch screen from 7 to 20 (level by level)). My problem is not that align screen applications. The problems persists on my camera on left side submenu settings. can someone tell me what can i do, anythings else that i have already doing from now....thanks a lot....

I had a similar problem on the right side a short time ago. It is a hardware fault. So long as it has not expired, you should be able to get the touchscreen replaced under the warranty. A reliable source told me that the earlier Omnia's had a latent defect on that component.

I would like to know if there is a newer firmware out and also how to get rid of the vodafone stuff on the phone,

my phone says :

Phone : i900BUIB1

Is there anything newer than this? How do i upgrade?

I was sufing the samsung site and after entering all the info of my Omnia the download started. 271MB of data to find out that my firmware is up to date!!! Why not avoiding all this? I don't understand the reason why I had to download such a file if not need it on my phone...

How do i get out of the vodacom loop??? I just want to use the open version (then i can get the latest updates). I downloaded the update DZIA5 and was pretty excited but unfortunately all i get is a message saying incorrect software version... And all this time I've had the latest firmware FOR VODACOM USERS. I would really like to be able to customize my widget. Any thoughts on this?

Hi guys.. I have been playing around with plenty of ROMS and Thirdparty software.. the cooked ones as well...

Vodacom and Samsung SA sucks a** when they tell you that the reason why South Africans have to wait so long.. or even not get the new ones is because of compatability issues and testing..

I am on my 7th rom now..I am running a windows 6.5 version and it is great.. like all cooked roms.. the developers are constantly adding and removing and fixing.. all for free.. and some good ones would like a donation..

I gave up with trying "there" crap.....

i have erroneously deleted my storage card after a hard reset on my omnia i900, and my navigation application has been removed from my storage card . How can I reload/download the software application to my storage card , as my phone has come preloaded with the software and i have the gps software disk for southern africa with the licence verification coupon . PLEASE HELP
