New App from Samsung - Kies Air

This is so cool!. Now you can update your phone wirelessly with Kies Air! Go to applications icon on your phone, select Samsung Apps, select Kies Air and download and install. Kies Air will load a number of modules. Then it will ask you to type in your Wi-Fi's address and sub-mask i.e. 192.168.2.10:6789 in your PC's browser and the Kies will then display on the screen.

Now you will able to upload and download your music, pictures and videos wirelessly. This is handy if you do not have your USB cable handy at the office or your USB ports are occupied.

You are able to:

select the ringtone and set it within the browser
View your call logs, Videos, Photos, Bookmarks, IM's

This app is available for the Galaxy S i9000, Galaxy S500 users should consult their Samsung Apps.

Please note in order to use this app please ensure your browser is set accordingly Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN settings and ensure Proxy settings are unchecked.

Unfortunately there is no Kies for Mac :/ I also use a Mac so I can relate. Fortunately, the way I use my Android devices doesn't rely so much on PC sync software and more on the "cloud" - info stored on Google servers, I guess.

Mac OS

I have found no reference to any Mac download for Kies on the Samsung site. I did find a reference to a site with a Kies download for Mac. I will caution you this is not an official Samsung site, neither can I guarantee you it will work. Ensure you have anti-virus on before commencing the download. Extreme caution: Since kies mini has not popped up on any official sumsung site besides the above, I would show all cautions as I do not have a Mac and even if I did I would resist the temptation until it is checked further logging an enquiry with the au.samsung mobile site.

If you have a Galaxy S GT i9000 then I suggest you use the Kies Air, I will keep you posted when it is available on other handsets like the Tab. If you could also state the model you are using. Alternatively log a handset enquiry on this blog with the Samsung Team.

Great find. I'm sure that the SA Samsung Mobile site will have some form of this software should it ever be official/applicable to devices in our region.

I downloaded and installed the version from the AU site. After several attempts to connect my Wave (with plenty of reboots) eventually gave an error that my device's firmware is not compatible.

I look forward to the day when I can perform firmware updates for my Samsung devices via my Mac; contact backups and whatnot are pretty much taken care of by Google on my Tab and Galaxy S.

Kies Air is only for the Galaxy S GT I9000. Me thinkis they are testbedding it and it may be available for other models later. The fact I do not have it for the Galaxy Tab would suggest this. However it would have to be confirmed.

O' Lorde me - Kies Mini for Mac OS

So Kies mini for Mac OS is only for the Australian handsets for Wave and it may be a matter of time before we see Kies Mini here in SA. Palesa has tried it and it fails. I know there are many complexities IRO updates and they seem very specific based on the country.

As usual I will attempt to dig down as far as updates allow me, I am assured that there must be an upgrade for the Wave. Maybe it is a matter of time. Updates are complicated at the best of times. At least we know the Wave cannot use this update thus my cautions.

If anyone thinks updates are a simple task, it varies by country,. That was the official update for Australia.

Does that mean with this Kies Air app on the phone, I can update it without having Kies installed on the desktop-computer?
I use GNU/Linux, so this would come handy.

Yes it means you can use Linux all you need is a browser and a router. It is amazing and one less hurdle. Works super try it:)

You can't do a FW upgrade with this

Don't get me wrong, I think it is great... but you can't upgrade the FW with it. I really like it for taking pictures and videos off my phone.

Ceci est fait référence à l'Afrique du Sud. Votre requête doit être avec Samsung France. Chaque pays / fournisseur de réseau a une version de firmware différente qui est spécifique à votre pays. Applications sur le firmware Samsung SA dont il dispose.

The Samsung Kies Air App refers to the South African Galaxy S firmware which has the Samsung App. If you are now residing in South Africa you will need to go to a Samsung Service Centre in February to upgrade to the SA firmware version Froyo 2.2, if you wish. Watch this site for availability. It will be the only way you will be able to get Kies Air after the upgrade. Samsung support can be contact on 0860 SAMSUNG (7267864) South Africa. Do inform them you have a Orange carrier handset and provide them details such as firmware, build etc which can be found under Settings/About phone.

Will the Air override the Galaxy block setting - The Kies I installed does not support my galaxy and I can not download any Samsung application. All I get is WAVES mobiles.

Also I can not do anything because I get message "due to google policy you can not download etc"
