Accessories for the Samsung I8000 and where to find them

Transmitter_Page_1.jpg

I've been asked about additional accessories for the Samsung I8000 that I use and where I got them from. I have and use a leather belt clip pouch and a Samsung I8000 Omnia II Leather Wallet Case Pouch LB3 which I paid $ 0.99 on Ebay for (appox R 10.00).

Samsung bada apps: BeeTagg QR Reader v3.0

BeeTagg QR Reader

The use of QR codes/tags isn't common in South Africa yet but my personal belief is that there will be increased adoption on a large scale in the next year or so as more people get used to smartphone features and marketers (or whomever) attempt to keep things interesting and convenient.

The Samsung Wave recently got its first native QR code reader by BeeTagg. This is a free application from Samsung Apps that not only read the standard QR format but Datamatrix and their proprietary BeeTagg format as well. What I found to be most impressive with the BeeTagg reader on the Wave is the speed it which detects codes; the camera's auto-focus is snappy and efficient.

Smart Reader on the Samsung I8000, a new addition

The people that had and used the Omnia I900, would know that there was a nice app that was called "Smart Reader". For the ones that do not know what this app is all about and or what this app does, in a nut shell, it is a business card scanner. Instead of you punching in info into your phone as most would do, the phone scan the info into your phone whereby one just needs to click Save and voila - info is in your phone book.

If a business card is scanned, all the info on the card will be included into the phone book. If there is part which you do not what to include you can simply delete the part before saving. The app put all the respected info into the relevant part, for example, Name with name, and e-mail with e-mail address, etc.

Copy and Paste in text (sms) box I8000

I have sorted the Mystery about the paste issue in the SMS text box.

At first Glances is seems the only option is insert, then I discovered that moving right into middle upper right Position tap and hold then the paste menu pops up.

The best position seems to be top middle of the text box

If you people require a screen shot, post on the blog and I post one.

Glad there are more and more I8000 phones in users' hands

I have noticed here on the Blog that there are more and more people that have an I8000.

I myself have picked this phone over even the I9000 Galaxy S. Why? Because it is a business phone. This does not mean because it falls in this category that it is difficult to use. It is as easy as the most basic phone on the market just with very powerful features.

For some of you that need to know a bit more on customizing the I8000 or understand the phone a bit more, please post your query here and I'll be glad to assist.

Some would say 'yeah but it has a manual'. There is loads of stuff that the manual does not cover. Others would have difficulty in getting their head around the manual.

I have my I8000 so sorted that it can almost make Coffee... LOL!

Samsung Galaxy S is world's first DivX certified Android phone

DivX logo

Last week Samsung announced that the Galaxy S is DivX certified for HD video playback at 720p resolution, making it the wordl's first Android mobile phone to receive DivX certification for HD. It's also the world's second overall DivX HD Certified phone after the Samsung Wave.

Samsung Galaxy S I9000 vs Apple iPhone 4

Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

I had a look at the new Samsung I9000 Galaxy S. Everybody all over net seems to compare the Samsung Galaxy S with the iPhone 4.

The Galaxy S seems to over shadow iPhone 4 by 90% in features as well as talked about how well Samsung has customized the TouchWiz over the Android OS.

Well I have seen what they did with I8000 whereTouchWiz works over Windows Phone without one noticing the OS under the bonnet, so to speak.

The only part where Galaxy S loses to the iPhone 4 which is mainly the body construction, it's too plasticky.

Price is important factor too and currently the iPhone 4 is probably the most expensive smartphone on the market.

Service providers must keep up with the times

When will our local networks catch up with technology. The only phone that you get where you can add unlimited data is the RIM. With the new phones that come intergrated with social networking sites, the least that you would expect is that they would also offer unlimited data plan for all the phones out there.

Maybe I am way ahead of myself and this technology might take 10 years for it to be available here. We have phones that have A-GPS and they require an internet connection for them to work. I think it's time our networks get to learn from other service providers.

Samsung smiley

Living in a 3rd world country with the way that technology has evolved we should expect that we would be the first people to benefit from low-priced phones. I was looking at the Samsung Smiley, a very good low-priced phone. The problem is after having tried to see how much the phone will cost here in South Africa I couldn't find it. The problem is we get last preference.

Samsung if you want to make it and reign in the African market then you definately need to reconsider your marketing strategy. Nowadays to get a phone that has a camera with Bluetooth you can pay R400 for a brand new phone. Affordability and also features are things that you have to consider. When will the Smiley be unveiled and available for sale in Africa?

Battle of the OS

A debate is going on right now about the best OS. Samsung has joined the club and has unveiled bada. I haven't had any experience as yet with Samsung's new OS so at the moment I can't say anything about it.

Android 2.1, the platform which the Galaxy S Vibrant is using is the best ( judging from what I've used ) platform. It comes with Swype, Talk to Text, voice guided Google Maps, Android Market... well the list is endless. I have had the pleasure to use the Galaxy S Vibrant and the yet to be unveiled to the world the G2. Asked to decide then I would choose the Vibrant. The only thing that I don't like is Samsung's customer care. The Vibrant has been out for some time now and there are some known issues with the phone of which only need a software update.
